Why Isn't Vinted Using My Balance at Checkout? Causes and Fixes

By Depop Automation Team · October 8, 2026 · 4 min read

You've got money in your Vinted balance, you go to buy something, and checkout wants your card. Vinted does let you spend your balance on purchases (see can you use your Vinted balance to buy items), so when it isn't applied there's usually a specific reason. Work through these in order.

1. The money is still pending

Money from a sale doesn't become spendable the moment you ship. It's held until the buyer confirms the order or the confirmation window passes. Until then it shows as pending and can't be used at checkout.

Fix: check your balance screen for what's available versus pending. If the money isn't showing at all, see Vinted balance not showing up.

2. Your wallet isn't fully set up

Vinted can ask you to verify your identity or complete your wallet details before you can use or withdraw your balance. An unfinished step can quietly block the balance option.

Fix: open your wallet or balance settings and look for an outstanding verification or setup step. Complete it, then try checkout again.

3. Your balance doesn't cover the full total

The checkout total includes the item, shipping and the buyer protection fee, not just the listed price. If your available balance is lower than that, Vinted may ask for a card for the whole amount or the remainder, depending on how it's handling split payments at the time.

Fix: compare your available balance to the full checkout total, not the item price.

4. The payment method selector is set to your card

Checkout often defaults to your last-used payment method. It can look as though balance isn't offered when it's simply not selected.

Fix: tap the payment method at checkout and switch it to your balance.

5. The app or browser is out of date

Older versions of the app don't always show the latest payment options.

Fix: update the Vinted app and fully restart it, or try checking out in a browser instead.

6. A sale is under dispute

If a buyer has reported a problem with one of your orders, that sale's money can be held until it's resolved, which leaves less spendable balance than you expect.

Fix: sort out the open case first. See the Vinted buyer protection and refunds guide.

7. Balance payment isn't available for this purchase

Payment features aren't always identical across countries and app versions. If none of the above apply, contact Vinted support from the help centre and pay by card in the meantime.

If you'd rather withdraw it

If spending your balance isn't working and you just want the money, withdrawing is a separate route with its own checks. See why you can't withdraw money from Vinted if that's blocked too, and how long Vinted takes to pay for timing.

Know how much of your balance is profit

Your Vinted balance is what buyers paid after fees, but it still includes what you spent on stock. Before you spend it, it's worth knowing the real margin. DepopAutomation.com's profit tracker logs cost, sale price and fees for each item, whichever platform it sold on.

If you want more balance clearing each week, the AI listing tool writes your listings from photos and cross-lists to Vinted, and the bulk lister handles a whole haul in one go.

Conclusion

When Vinted won't use your balance, it's usually because the money is still pending, your wallet isn't verified, or the balance doesn't cover the full total including fees and shipping. Less often it's the payment selector, an old app, a disputed sale, or a feature that isn't available for that purchase. Start with the available figure and work down.
