Marking an item as sold on Vinted takes it out of the catalog so nobody can buy it. That's all it does. No money is added to your Vinted balance, there's no shipping label, and Vinted's buyer protection doesn't cover it, because as far as Vinted is concerned no sale happened in the app. It's meant for items you've sold somewhere else.
A real Vinted sale vs marking it sold
When a buyer pays through Vinted, the app does a lot for you:
- It takes the item off sale.
- It gives you a shipping label or instructions.
- It holds the buyer's money until delivery is confirmed, then releases it to your balance. See what happens after you sell on Vinted.
- The order is covered by Vinted's buyer protection and dispute process.
Marking an item sold yourself skips all of that. The listing stops being available, and that's the end of Vinted's involvement.
Where the listing goes
Once you mark it sold, the item no longer shows in search and buyers can't make offers or check out. Depending on the current app version it may still show on your profile as sold or disappear from the active list. Messages about it stay in your inbox.
You usually can't turn a sold item back into an active one. If you marked the wrong item, you may need to list it again.
Mark as sold, hide or delete?
Vinted gives you a few ways to take an item off sale, and they're for different situations:
- Mark as sold. For items that sold somewhere else, such as on Depop or in person. The listing ends.
- Hide. Takes the item out of view without ending it, so you can bring it back later. Useful when you're away, an item is on hold, or you're not sure yet.
- Delete. Removes the listing completely. Use it for items you're not selling any more.
If you're cross-listing and an item sells on Depop, marking it sold or hiding it on Vinted both stop a second buyer. Hiding keeps the listing in case the Depop buyer cancels.
Don't use it to take payment outside Vinted
Some buyers ask to pay by bank transfer or PayPal and have you mark the item sold. Don't. Vinted's rules require sales between members to go through the app, and paying outside it removes buyer protection for them and payment protection for you. It's also a common setup for scams. Messages pushing you off the app are worth reporting. See Vinted buyer protection and refunds.
Selling on both Depop and Vinted
Marking items sold is part of a cross-lister's routine. Every sale on Depop means taking the Vinted copy down, and the other way round. Our guides to avoiding double sales and what happens when a cross-listed item sells cover the steps.
DepopAutomation.com takes care of the listing side: the bulk lister and AI listing tool turn photos into finished listings on Depop and Vinted through cross-listing, Nano Banana cleans up the photos, and relisting bumps Vinted items that have gone quiet. The profit tracker records what every sale made, whichever app it sold on.
Quick answers
Do I get paid if I mark an item as sold on Vinted? No. Only sales paid through Vinted add money to your balance.
Can buyers still see it? It drops out of search and can't be bought.
Can I undo it? Usually not. You'd have to list the item again.
Is it allowed to sell outside Vinted and mark it sold? Selling an item somewhere else, like on Depop, is fine. Taking payment outside Vinted from a Vinted buyer isn't.
Conclusion
Marking an item sold on Vinted just ends the listing. There's no payout, no label and no protection, so use it only for items that sold somewhere else. If you might want the item back, hide it instead.
